The Sign of Body Language

Language is a medium to communicate and many times your body language is more powerful than your words. Have you ever thought that in your school, college, office, community and club particular person became the heart of the show even he/she communicates in the same manner as you do then what makes a difference that he/she being focused more and you are out of any attention. This is because your body language doesn’t convey your views to the third person effectively and even though you answer all questions, the rating of yours presentation will be low. I have observed many girls and boys who were good looking and good physique but because of low body language (dull eye movement, imbalance smile, lose walking, unnoticed hand movement and low intonation), they observed and followed less whereas simple looking and balanced thinking person steals the show by perfect movement of body while conversation.

Body Language is a combination of all your physical behaviours like- facial expression, eye movement, gestures and postures during your conversation. Veteran Actor Rajesh Khanna was famous for his eye movements in all his dialogues that separate him from other actors; Shah Rukh Khan uses his facial expression the most; Shammi Kapoor was good in gestures means movements made with body parts; Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachhan were expressive through their intonation of dialogues in the movie.

In body language one can be a master if he/she understands the uses of Tone of Voice. It is a combination of spoken and body language. I was watching many politicians video and noticed something very impressive in USA President Mr. Barack Obama. His delivery of speeches along with his standing style and turning left side/right side gives weight to his thoughts. On his India visit, media focused on Mr. Narendra Modi and Mr. Barack Obama “Chai Par Charcha” while I was noticing their body language. While Modi Ji was preparing tea for him, Mr Obama was not sitting erect else he preferred to bend but he keeps that stiffness to his body. That was a symbol of world leader whereas if I consider our PM, he is from Gujarat and so an accent comes from his body automatically. But praise Worthing him he finds a “smile” to this problem.  Whenever he meets any world leader, he talks and smiles first. In his case, greet was not only limited to hand shake and photography whereas our previous PM Mr. Manmohan Singh body language was silent most of the time. Mr. Singh dialogues were not presented through his body and hence, he gave less impact to the audience.

Shaking hand is also necessary in body language. In latin America, one who are close, greets one another by kissing on the cheeks. In North America, one generally prefers to shake hands. In many Islamic states, women doesn’t prefer to hand shake with men. In India, we can find handshakes in corporate culture mainly. Handshake in political leaders resembles the sense of commanding, humble, accepting the dominance, etc. In the picture below we can understand it more clearly: (right side photo) Mr. Modi is firmly holding hand with the China President Xi Jinping and Prez Xi Jiping is shaking hand with equal weighted; (middle photo) Mr. Obama is holding Mr. Modi’s hand tightly which shows commanding nature of the World biggest economy; (left side photo)Mr. Modi when shakes with the Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel , she is not folding all her fingers, this shows the discomfort level that she either ignores handshake tightly or wanted to remove as early as possible but our PM engaged her in his conversation to catch the media, it should be appreciated because he took time from her, this is called the strategy of body language; (top photo)the way Mr. Modi shakes hand with Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina shows the commanding nature of fastest growing economy. Moreover, the gesture of holding hand is an art.

Companies hire psychiatrist to notice the body language of the candidate during interview in order to find the unnoticed behaviour of him/her. Even, in daily life, police force always vigilant on the physical behaviour of the suspects to find the criminals. Body language also create enigma, many times you cannot believe of an act from a person because his/her body language are so perfect to find an err. Nevertheless, reading body language is a complex task. One cannot be 100% accurate for a person based on his/her body language.

A good book & CD on this topic is published by History International Channel. Prefer reading for deeper analysis by Body Language experts. (Snapshot below)
